About MCED

The Maine Center for Entrepreneurial Development (MCED) is a private non-profit founded in 1997 that helps Maine’s most promising entrepreneurs to grow through innovation.

Historically a traditional business incubator that offered entrepreneurs space located on an academic campus, MCED is now a leading edge virtual resource for the most promising growth oriented companies.

Our particular strength is enabling non-debt financing through training, coaching, mentoring and connections.

MCED is helping entrepreneurs re-invent the Maine economy by providing them with resources to build innovative world-class companies.  Over our 15+ years we have accelerated the growth of hundreds of companies, established the largest community of mentors in Maine, and continue to offer the very best training, advice and connections.

Our resources are delivered in three parallel tracks.

  • Monthly Lunch and Learns and Table Talks are open to the general community and provide detailed, actionable training especially related to Marketing and Money.
  • The Top Gun track begins with an open, statewide online course (Top Gun Prep), continues for some with the selective Top Gun entrepreneurship acceleration program, and for a select few leads to the Accelerated Ventures program of Blackstone Accelerates Growth.
  • Memberships provide ongoing coaching, advising and mentoring, as well as access to our monthly training sessions.  This track can make sense before, after or instead of the Top Gun track.

MCED achieves statewide impact through important partnerships.

  • We are a part of a network of Maine’s three technology centers. Membership in MCED, Target Technology Center, or the Maine Aquaculture Innovation Center leverages the power and collective resources of all three organizations.
  • We are one of three operating partners in Blackstone Accelerates Growth. BxG is a three-year initiative to create an intentional community of growth through innovation by accelerating companies, connections, and the next generation. Maine Technology Institute and the University of Maine are the other key partners in this initiative.
  • Scholarships for promising entrepreneurs are provided by key partners such as Northern Maine Development Corporation, Sunrise County Economic Council, and Women Work and Community.

We are able to offer these important resources to cash strapped entrepreneurs at an 80% to 90% discount due to the generous support of our sponsors and underwriters.

We encourage you to join the community and help re-invent Maine’s economy! Entrepreneurs, mentors, sponsors and partners are welcome. Please contact us directly, attend one of our seminars, or find us at one of the growing number of community events.
